Installing the phone app or Android APK
Use the store links above, install the app, then open it. The Android listing names the developer as DeepSeek; the Apple listing names Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd. as the seller. These details help distinguish the official app from similarly named downloads.
If you need an APK instead of Google Play, use DeepSeek’s official Android APK. Android may ask you to allow installation from the browser or file manager you used; turn that permission off again when you finish. Get the file from DeepSeek itself rather than an APK mirror.
If a store says the app is unavailable for your device or region, try the web chat while you check the official download options. A third-party app with a similar name is not a replacement for the official listing.
Should you install Harness or use the browser?
For writing a message, asking a question or getting help with a piece of code, start with the browser. You can bookmark the chat page for easy access without installing anything.
DeepSeek Harness is worth considering when you want an assistant to work with local files or carry out a longer task, such as organizing a folder or editing a project. It is currently a public preview. Download the version for your computer from the official page.
Before choosing Harness, note that its default DeepSeek model service requires a signed-in DeepSeek account and Open Platform prepayment under the Harness terms. Check your balance and any promotional-credit conditions before you start. If you configure another model provider, that provider’s charges apply.
The download page shows a button for one desktop system and an “Also available for” link to the other. Choose Windows or macOS there; the Mac file currently offered is not an Intel Mac installer. Intel Mac users who only need chat can use the browser.
Does downloading DeepSeek let you use it offline?
The phone app and ordinary web chat need an internet connection. Downloading Harness is also different from downloading DeepSeek model weights.
